Driver Robbed By Hitchhiker

A 74-year-old driver has been pushed from his car and robbed by a hitchhiker in the Castlewellan area of County Down.

The pensioner was driving close to Drumee Cemetery when he picked up the hitchhiker.

However, the man told the driver to turn onto the Carrigs road where he then forced the pensioner from his vehicle and drove off in the car.

Details of the incident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, have only just been released.

The hitchhiker is described as being in his mid-20s, with dark hair, and he was wearing a dark jacket.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone who was in the area at around 12.30 on Saturday afternoon.

Three men have been targeted by a gang of five armed with a baton and hammer during an aggravated burglary in east Belfast. Police are appealing for information following the incident in the Calvin Street area in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 07 August.

Van Hijacked At Gunpoint In Belfast
Police are hunting two men after a van was hijacked at gunpoint in the Grosvenor Road area of west Belfast. The driver had parked the White Renault Traffic van on the route at around 10.20am on Monday morning, 23 September, when he was approached by the two males, one of whom is believed to have been armed with a gun.

Delivery Driver Robbed In North Belfast
A delivery driver has been robbed after a man, pointed a suspected gun at him, in north Belfast. The incident happened in the Ballysillan area shortly after 3am on Friday, 16 February. The suspect approached the driver and pointed what is believed to have been a gun at him and demanded he hand over his money.
