Child Struck By Bangor Train

A two-year-old child is being treated in hospital for serious head injuries after being struck by a train near Bangor.

The accident happened at the Seahill Halt, near Ballyrobert in north Down on the Belfast side at 11am on Wednesday.

The boy had wandered onto the track and was struck by a passing train.

It is understood the driver of the train saw the toddler on the track and attempted to slow down. However, he was unable to avoid him.

The young boy was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.

The Bangor rail line has now reopened and trains are running as timetabled.
