Pensioner Robbed At Knife Point
The PSNI is seeking information about knife wielding robbers who held a blade to the throat of a pensioner early this morning.
The 69-year-old woman was attacked in her north Belfast home just before 3.30am.
The incident, which saw the intruders stealing her car, took place early on Wednesday when two men entered the property in the Old Westland Road area.
The robbers threatened the woman with a knife and took her car keys before fleeing.
While a short time later police stopped a car on the Ardoyne Road and arrested a 23-year-old man, detectives have nonetheless appealed for anyone with information about the robbery to contact them.
Meanwhile, investigations into the death of a woman in a house fire in Co Down are still underway today.
The blaze broke out on the ground floor of a mid-terrace house on Courtney Hill in Newry at around 12.30pm yesterday afternoon.
The victim was found in the living room of the property by officers from the three fire appliances that attended the scene.
It is believed the 57-year-old disabled woman was already dead when fire crews arrived.
The blaze was discovered by a careworker who was bringing the woman lunch to her home.
The dead woman's name has not yet been released. The police have said the fire was not suspicious, and the fire service is trying to work out how it started.
Neighbours said they were shocked and saddened at what happened, describing the victim as a quiet woman who lived alone.
