Craigavon Jobs In View
The prospect of an eight-screen cineplex in Co Armagh is raising hopes of new jobs being in sight for the Craigavon area.
The multi-screen film complex is among the elements in a proposed £40m investment in one of Northern Ireland's main shopping centres, with the prospect of 400 new jobs.
As well as the cineplex, the plans include a three-storey retail block, five restaurants and 500 parking spaces to complement the existing Rushmere Centre in Craigavon.
Plans are due to be lodged next week for the expansion. And an MLA for Upper Bann, the SDLP's Dolores Kelly, has described the project as "exciting and just what the area needs". Said Mrs Kelly: "I was on the site with the developers on Wednesday night and the prospects are exciting.
"Rushmere is growing naturally and at a fast rate, and is one of the best centres in the province. The cineplex will add a much-needed element."
She also said that there are hopes that Translink will expand its bus timetable and look at the a possibilty of a new Craigavon train halt as well to service the new scheme.
