Man arrested following attempted robbery in Crossgar

A man has been arrested after a woman was attacked in her own home in Crossgar.

Police arrested the man following an attempted robbery on the woman's home in Downpatrick Street.

The 58-year-old awoke after hearing noises in her kitchen at about 0345 BST on Tuesday morning.

When the woman went to investigate the noises she was confronted by one man who was searching through her handbag.

The intruder asked her to hand over any money she had but when she told him she had none he slashed her across the face and body with a knife. She was then struck on the back of the head with a baseball-bat type object.

She was left unconscious for two hours as a result of the attack.

Another man was seen looking through a window at the time of the attack.

The woman, who has yet to be named, is currently in hospital were she is being treated for a suspected fractured skull.

A woman has been arrested following the sudden death of a man in Magherafelt. A 46-year-old man died in L'Derry in the early hours of Tuesday, 05 December. Police are treating the death as suspicious. A 32-year-old woman has been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
