Flextronics to close Limerick at cost of 250 jobs
Around 250 jobs are to be axed by electronic manufacturer Flextronics after the company announced it is to close it’s manufacturing plant in Limerick.
The company, which supplies networking products to the telecommunications and IT sectors, has blamed the continuing weakness in the global electronics sector and will close the plant down in September.
While Flextronics has two manufacturing plants at Limerick and Cork, it has decided to consolidate all its manufacturing in Cork.
It said 150 jobs would be retained in Limerick and also at Shannon as part of its existing repair and reverse logistics services.
This latest news by the company follows their decision to lay off 130 people at the Limerick plant last March and the closure of their Tullamore plant prior to that, with the loss of all 300 jobs there.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD has announced that the viagogo Group, which operates viagogo.com, is to open a purpose-built international operations centre in Limerick, Ireland. The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.
