Bronze Star Greeted

Olympic star, Boxer and bronze medal winner Paddy Barnes has received a hero's welcome as he arrived home in Belfast. Hundreds of fans turned out to greet the boxer as he paraded through north Belfast on an open-top bus.

There was also a special reception for the light-flyweight medallist at his gym on North Queen Street as he returned after a two-day journey from Beijing, his mother, Ellen, said the support he received in his native city had been incredible.

Rapist Jailed

A 21-year-old who attacked a young woman and raped her as she slept in her bed last November has been jailed for 11 years and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for the rest of his life. Anthony West, from Knockwood Crescent in Belfast had been rejected when he made advances to the woman who phoned him a taxi, but he returned and got into the house before committing the offence.

Trouble In Derry

Children as young as 13 have been throwing stones - and even petrol bombs - at police in Londonderry. The incident was on Wednesday night, with officers attacked as they arrived at the scene of a hit-and-run traffic incident in Carranbane Walk in Shantallow at about 8pm. The car involved was abandoned and set alight, and a recovery vehicle also had a window smashed.

Woman Attacked In House With Young Child In South Belfast
Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted in a house with a young child in south Belfast. The incident happened at a property in the Cooke Place area on Monday, 14 November, at around 9am. The woman had to be treated in hospital for her injuries.

Woman treated in hospital after attempted car jacking
A 43-year-old woman has been treated in hospital after suffering injuries to her face and head, during an attempted car jacking in east Belfast, at around 1.30pm yesterday.

Police Attacked By Young People In West Belfast
The PSNI have condemned the assault of four police officers when they were attacked by young people in West Belfast. At around 6:50pm on Saturday, 06 April, police received a report in relation to community concerns that a large group of young people had congregated in Falls Park and that alcohol was being consumed by children.

Lord Mayor Announces 2023 One Young World Summit
More than 2,000 young people from over 190 countries across the world are expected to visit Belfast in October 2023 for the One Young World Summit, Lord Mayor Councillor Tina Black has announced. A delegation from Belfast will attend a special handover ceremony from current host city Manchester this week.
