Search for young German tourist enters third day

The Irish police have entered the third day of their search for a German tourist who went missing after a walk in County Donegal.

Gardaí officers, mountain rescue teams and a police Water Unit are looking for Constanze Czerwinske, 22, who failed to return from a coastal walk near the village of Glencolmcille.

Ms Czerwinske told other backpackers in the hostel she was staying in, she was going for a walk on Tuesday evening around 6.45pm.

She was seen heading towards an area known as Glen Head, which has a spectacular view of the surrounding cliffs and ocean.

The owner of the hostel raised the alarm on Wednesday morning after she failed to return.

Inspector Jim Coen of Glencolmcille Gardaí unit said they launched their search Wednesday evening and carried on through the night. They resumed their search at 6am again on Thursday and 8am today.

There are fears the young German woman could have fallen and been swept out to sea.

As one Gardaí source said, “After 72 hours the situation isn’t looking too good.”

The Irish police said they were concentrating their search on an area between Port and Silver Strand.
