Local graduate gains national recognition

A local civil engineering graduate, Louise Mitchell from Holywood has been commended in the national NCE Graduate Awards at the 'Civils 2002' conference held in Birmingham.

The national awards, which are sponsored by leading construction companies and institutions, are designed to recognise and reward gifted young engineers in the UK.

A graduate civil engineer with Ferguson McIlveen and a former Queen's University student, Louise was the only graduate from Northern Ireland to be shortlisted for the competition. Over 60 entrants from across the UK were shortlisted down to seven on the basis of a written submission. The seven finalists were then flown to London to be interviewed by a panel of 13 senior engineers.

Commenting on the award commendation, partner in Ferguson McIlveen, Alan Cooper, said, “We are absolutely delighted for Louise. Her commendation illustrates the high calibre of graduates which our local Universities are producing and is an encouraging sign for the future.”

Louise gained a First Class Honours, Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering from The Queen’s University of Belfast last year.

Employed as a Graduate Civil Engineer with Ferguson McIlveen, Louise is currently working on several civil engineering projects.
