X Factor' Star's Costly Return Revealed

The high profile 'homecoming' staged for X Factor finalist Eoghan Quigg, before Christmas was a major local event - but at a cost.

The return of Dungiven's best-known son cost over £30,000.

The 16-year-old singer - who came third in the popular ITV show last year - was welcomed by local councillors who funded a lavish homecoming in his honour.

At least 2,000 fans braved the cold on December 21 to cheer their local hero as he toured his hometown in an open top bus.

The cost to police the overall event was roughly £16,500, according to Limavady PSNI Area Commander Chief Inspector Stephen Cargin.

A team of 46 police officers were involved in the six-hour operation, he told a meeting of the District Policing partnership on Wednesday last.

In addition, the event cost Limavady Borough Council between £15-16,000.

It could have been a lot more too as the star was also due to attend a civic reception at Limavady Council this week, but due to the X Factor tour and recording commitments he had to pull out.

But the event will be rearranged, and with the Dungiven lad due to release his first album shortly, he is sure to be even more popular on his next high profile appearance.
