Dublin Bus Workers Take Vital Vote
Workers for Dublin Bus are taking a vital vote today on recommendations from the Labour Court.
The recommendations include increasing overtime work and scrapping 120 buses from Dublin's roads.
Dublin Bus is seeking to remove the buses from the fleet and shed 290 jobs in an effort to avoid potential losses of more than €30m this year.
Other aspects of the recommendations include having rest days available on Sundays, no compulsory redundancies and 80 voluntary redundancies made available for senior drivers.
In a letter to staff, the company's Human Resources Manager Gerry Maguire wrote: "There is no other forum to discuss these issues and, therefore, it is vitally important for your future and the future of the company that the recommendations are accepted."
Mr Maguire added: "The Labour Court recommendation to ensure the future of the company involves, among other issues, no change to shift pay arrangements, no compulsory redundancy, and an independent review group to monitor all aspects of the implementation of the working time directive and its impact on staff."

Dublin Bus Workers Begin 48-Hour Strike Action
More than 1,500 SIPTU union members working for Dublin Bus have begun a 48-hour work stoppage today, 08 September, in a dispute over pay and conditions. The action by the SIPTU members and their colleagues, in the four other unions in Dublin Bus, has resulted in a complete shutdown of public bus services throughout the city.

Dublin Bus Staff Must Earn Same As Luas Workers – NBRU
The government has a role to play in ensuring Dublin Bus drivers don't go on strike, National Rail and Busworkers Union General Secretary, Dermot O'Leary, has said. Speaking on Newstalk's Pat Kenny Show, Mr O'Leary said that it was "not acceptable" for Dublin Bus staff to be paid less than Luas workers.

Olhausen Closes Three Dublin Plants
Fine Gael TD for Dublin Bay North, Terence Flanagan, has expressed his regret on hearing of the news of the closure of Olhausen, with the closure of three plants in Dublin. He said: "My thoughts are with the 160 workers at Olhausen who were informed that the company has ceased trading.
