Armagh City Alerted As Belfast Scare Ends

While this morning's security alert at Whiterock Leisure Centre in west Belfast is now over - with nothing suspicious being found - a separate scare has also been taking place in Co Armagh.

The security forces have this afternoon recovered a 'viable device' in Armagh City.

The find follows an anonymous call on Thursday morning stating that an object had been left in the Friary Road area.

Several homes were evacuated while Army technical officers examined the suspicious object.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the item has been removed for further examination.

The homes evacuated were in the Emania Terrace area of the city.

Police were initially warning people in the area to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to them.
