Security Alert

There was a security alert in Co Antrim this afternoon. A suspicious object was found in the grounds of Coleraine PSNI station around 11am on Monday. The army bomb squad were tasked and are examining the device. Part of the Strand Road is closed.

Dog Mauls Girl

A three-year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital after she was attacked by a dog. Police said that she suffered wounds to her neck, head and face after she was bitten by the Japanese Akita type dog. The animal was put down after the incident which happened at 11.30am in the Keery Road area of Magheramason, Co Londonderry.

Bicycle Death Victim Named

Police have released the name of a seven-year-old boy who was killed in a road accident in Larne. Dillon Nicholl was riding his bicycle on Mill Road shortly after noon on Saturday when he was involved in a collision with a vehicle. He was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

£1m Carrickfergus Road Works Announced

Over £1m will be invested in improving roads in and around Carrickfergus this year, it has been announced. Roads Minister Conor Murphy said remedial works had been sanctioned following a fire on the embankment at Barnhalt road bridge. Drainage works at Dalwaysbawn Road and the A2 Larne Road towards Ballycarry will also be carried out.

Energy Solutions Extended South

A Northern Ireland energy systems firm has announced plans to invest £800,000 in expanding its operations in the Irish Republic. Saintfield-based Hughes Energy Systems Ltd will receive some support from Invest NI. The firm provides products and services to increase the efficiency of its customers' energy processes, helping businesses to reduce energy consumption and costs, and meet legal requirements on power usage levels. Its clients include companies in sectors such as manufacturing, retail and hospitality throughout the Republic of Ireland.

Jobs Fillip From Randox

Randox Laboratories, has created 32 new jobs in Northern Ireland. The firm employs a total of 850 people in 26 countries worldwide. It created 230 new jobs in the past year. It makes medical diagnostic equipment and sells over 90% of its products abroad.

Number Of Roads Remain Closed Following Storm Ali
A number of roads remain closed across Northern Ireland following the damage caused by Storm Ali. The following roads are still closed, however the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is working to clear the obstructions along with its multiagency partners.

Road death figures are lowest in 50 years
Figures released today by the Department of the Environment have revealed that road deaths in Northern Ireland last year were at the lowest level in 50 years. The total number of road deaths in 2005 totalled 136, the lowest number since 1952 when 133 people lost their lives at at time when there was one eighth of the number of vehicles on the road.

Renewable Energy Gets Powerful Boost
A new association is being formed today aimed at expanding the use of renewable energy sources, such as wind power. The Northern Ireland Renewable Industry Group (NIRIG), which represents the collective voices of Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) and RenewableUK in Northern Ireland, was officially launched on Thursday.
