Ashes Author McCourt Dies
Best-selling novelist Frank McCourt has lost his battle with cancer.
The 78-year-old author, best known for writing Angela's Ashes, died in New York while receiving hospice care.
McCourt, a prominent Irish-American, was suffering from meningitis and had been undergoing treatment for the deadly skin cancer, melanoma.
Semi-autobiographical, Angela's Ashes sold millions of copies world-wide, later receiving the acclaimed Pulitzer Prize.
McCourt's family travelled from New York to Ireland during the Great Depression.
They lived in poverty in Limerick, which was a strong theme in Angela's Ashes. In 1999 the book was made into a feature film.
Prior to the book's 1996 publication, McCourt had worked as a teacher in New York for 30 years.

Bullets Posted To Footballer Paddy McCourt
Bullets have been sent to Celtic Footballer Paddy McCourt just days after his team mate and manager received similar packages. The envelope, posted in Northern Ireland, was found by staff at a Royal Mail sorting office in Glasgow. Earlier this week bullets were sent to Celtic boss Neil Lennon and player Niall McGinn at their club.

Breastfeeding mothers must be supported at every step of their journey, the Public Health Agency (PHA) has said, ahead of World Breastfeeding Week on Tuesday 01 August. Between 2010–2020 the rates of breastfeeding in NI at discharge rose from 45% to 50%, however there is a big drop off with only 21% receiving breastmilk at 6 months.

Twelve Cars Damaged In Attack
The tyres of 12 vehicles have been slashed in the Short Strand area of Belfast, police have confirmed. It is understood the attacks happened in the east of the city overnight and were carried out in Perry Court, Madrid Street, Clandeboye Drive and Clandeboye Gardens. At least one tyre on each vehicle was damaged.
