Appeal Over Down Cash-Transit Robbery

Detectives in Downpatrick have appealed for information following the robbery of a cash in transit van in the Bath Street area of Ardglass at the weekend.

At around 1.30pm on Saturday one of the delivery men had gotten out of the vehicle when he was approached by a man brandishing what's thought to have been a knife.

The man demanded a cash box be handed over before leaving the scene in a white coloured Metro car. A vehicle was later found burnt out a short distance away.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information.

"Anyone who was in the Bath Street area between 1pm and 2pm and who may have noticed anything unusual, or anyone who can provide information on the movement of a white coloured Metro vehicle seen in the area at the time, is asked to contact police on 0845 600 8000," said a PSNI spokesman.

Two males - one aged in his thirties, the other aged in his forties - have been arrested and are assisting police with their enquiries.
