Post mortem carried out on newborn baby

A post mortem carried out on the body of a newborn baby that was found abandoned outside Belfast has revealed that the infant was a girl.

Two schoolchildren, aged 10 and 11, found the body wrapped in a black plastic bag that was lying behind the Loughmoss Leisure Centre in Carryduff, County Down on Tuesday March 26. It is thought the body may have been there for several weeks.

It has still not been revealed how the baby died.

Police have made an urgent appeal for the mother to come forward amid concerns for her wellbeing. (AMcE)
