Man Remanded Over Coleraine Killing
A man has today been remanded in custody charged with the murder of Kevin McDaid.
James McAfee, 28, of Lisnablagh Road, also faces four other charges, including the attempted murder of Damian Fleming and assaulting Mr McDaid's wife.
During today's hearing, a police officer told the court they were objecting to bail because of fears of witness intimidation. He said some had already received threats.
The accused will appear in court again via video-link on 21 September.
The charge of attempted murder of Damien Fleming relates to an associated assault which left the victim critically injured after the Coleraine gang attack.
Mr Fleming was left in a coma in the violence, but has since begun to recover.
McAfee is the 11th person to be charged in connection with the murder of 49-year-old Mr McDaid.
He was killed near his home in Somerset Drive in the Co Londonderry town by a loyalist mob on May 24.
The Catholic man (pictured above) was attacked by loyalists who entered the estate after Rangers beat Celtic to the Scottish Premier League title.
A row over flag flying in the mainly nationalist area was blamed for the incident.
