Chief Constable to meet with Law Society over bugging claim
Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde is to be questioned by the Law Society of Northern Ireland's Chief Executive, about allegations that a solicitor, who was arrested in suspicion of terrorist offences, had been secretly bugged during confidential meetings with clients.
The meeting is due to take place on Monday, and the Chief Constable will be asked to provide an explanation as to what exactly happened.
Manmohan Sandu, from Limavady in County Londonderry, was arrested on Tuesday by anti-terrorist officers on suspicion of membership of the Ulster Volunteer Force.
Police have until tomorrow to detain him before deciding whether to charge him or not.
Mr Sandhu's solicitor, Joe Rice, claims that the arrest was based on evidence retrieved from hidden listening devices planted in his client's private offices and that over 50 confidential consultations were recorded over a nine month period.
He added that the case against Mr Sandhu has posed a huge threat to his profession.
A spokesman for the Law Society chief has said that there will be no comment made about the meeting beforehand.

Chief Constable, Jon Boutcher, made the commitment as he acknowledged the comments of the Coroner on the murder of GAA Official, Sean Browne, in 1997.

PSNI ACC Issues Statement Following 'Really Busy Easter'
PSNI Assistant Chief Constable, Bobby Singleton, has commented on a "really busy Easter for the Police Service with close to 80 parades taking place across the country". ACC Singleton said that he wanted to put on record his thanks to event organisers and participants who worked with the force to keep people safe.
