Latest Belfast 'Bomb' Alerts Declared Hoaxes

Two security alerts in west Belfast have ended and been declared as hoaxes.

The news came after a controlled explosion was carried out on a suspicious object found at the gates of Whiterock Leisure Centre.

A second alert in the west of the city has also ended after another suspicious device found close to the Springfield Road has been declared a hoax.

The device concerned was found near traffic lights in the Watermouth Crescent area, close to Springfield Primary School, on Springfield Road.

Diversions were put in place at Springfield Road and Workman Avenue for several hours.

A number of families moved from their homes during the alerts, but have returned and roads which were closed have now been reopened.

During the Whiterock Leisure Centre alert, the road was closed for most of the morning with its junction with the Springfield Road, Glenalina Road and the Ballymurphy Road.
