Solider Killed In Helmand Blast

A British soldier has been killed while on foot patrol in the Afghan region of Helmand

The man served with the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, the Ministry of Defence said.

He was patrolling Nad e-Ali district centre yesterday morning when a bomb was detonated. The soldier was killed in the blast.

Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson said: "It is with much sadness that I have to report the death of a courageous soldier in Helmand province.

"Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies go out to his bereaved family, to his friends and to the many comrades of this proud and brave Guards soldier."

Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released, the MoD added.

MoD names British soldier killed in Iraq
The Ministry of Defence has named the British soldier killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq on Tuesday night. Sergeant Christian Hickey, of the 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards, died as a result of his injuries, following the explosion, which took place around 11:23 local time in Basra on Tuesday night.

A British soldier has been killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said. The serviceman from the 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment was on an operation near Garmsir in Helmand Province, and next of kin have been informed.

Tributes paid to soldier killed in Iraq
Tributes have been paid to the British soldier killed in a bomb attack in Iraq at the weekend. Sergeant John ‘Jonah’ Jones, 31, from the 1st Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, died from injuries sustained in a roadside bomb attack in the southern Iraq city of Basra on Sunday.
