Footballer Stabbed During Nottinghamshire Football Match

Police in Nottinghamshire have launched an investigation after a footballer was stabbed at half-time during a Sunday league football match.

Officers were called to Bestwood Workshops in Bestwood Village around 11:20am on Sunday.

It is believed that the man was the victim of a targeted attack, with a group of youth being seen approaching him before the attack.

The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre, suffering from stab wounds. He remains in a stable condition.

Police are speaking to members of both teams involved in the match and a forensic search of the scene of the incident was carried out on Sunday.

Cole Released On Bail After Wife Attack
Nottingham-born footballer Andy Cole has been questioned by police after an alleged assault on his wife. The 36-year-old, currently on loan at Burnley, was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning at his home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. A footballer has been jailed for punching a rival player in the face during an FA Cup match. Barrow defender James Cotterill, 24, pleaded guilty to punching Bristol Rovers striker Sean Rigg during the match on November 11 last year.

English football fans stabbed in Italy
Three Middlesbrough fans have been stabbed in Rome in a violent clash ahead of the football club's UEFA cup match against Roma. The violence broke out in the Campo di Fiori area when two bars, where around 200 English fans were drinking, were targeted by a group of Italian fans.
