Gang Target CIT Van

A gang of robbers held up a cash in transit delivery outside a Wolverhampton supermarket this morning.

Police received an emergency call at 6.40am after the men had targeted a delivery to the ATMs at the front of the Waitrose store on Marston Road, Graiseley.

One of the delivery staff was pushed to the floor by the offenders, but was not seriously injured. He was not taken to hospital. His colleague was uninjured.

Three men, wearing dark clothing with hoods or hats on, were seen to have been involved and they left the scene in a black Ford Focus, registration plate CA07UBC.

They escaped with a box containing a large quantity of cash.

A short time later, police were notifed of the vehicle having been dumped on Pool Street, Blakenhall, and attempts had been made to open the box.

Detective sergeant Peter Burrington from Bilston Street CID said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the Focus travelling to Waitrose, or leaving the scene towards Blakenhall this morning.

"We are also interested in hearing from anyone who may have witnessed what took place in Pool Street, and have knowledge of what car the offenders then changed into to leave the area.

"The red dye was activated as they tried to open the cash box, and so the offenders and the other vehicle may well have been covered in it. If anyone has seen a vehicle around the Wolverhampton area with red dye or paint on it we urge them to call us immediately."
