PC's Body Found As Floodwater Rages
Search teams in Cumbria have found the body of a police man believed to have been swept away by floods following a bridge collapse.
The recovered body was this afternoon identified as PC Bill Barker.
The 45-year-old went missing after the Northside Bridge toppled. Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Graham said he was "devastated" by the loss.
ACC Graham said PC Barker was directing motorists off the bridge, attempting to save lives, when the tragic incident occurred.
Authorities in Cumbria this morning said the extreme force of high waters passing under bridges is putting them at risk of structural damage.
Lorton Bridge, near Cockermouth, also collapsed as has Southwaite footbridge in Cockermouth.
So far, 200 people have been rescued by emergency services, with 50 RAF helicopters helping airlift locals to safety.
Aid workers have reported "very challenging" circumstances, as water levels in some parts of Cockermouth reach 2.5m (8ft 2in).
The collapse of Northside bridge has meant the gas supply into Workington has been cut off.
More than 1,200 homes have also been left without electricity.
Environment Agency officials described the deluge as "unprecedented", with Prime Minister Gordon Brown thanking emergency crews for their continued efforts.
Police said some members of the public have been reportedly been using bridges as vantage points to view the flood waters.
"This could be extremely dangerous and the public are advised to stay away from bridges and use caution and common sense," said a police spokesman.
He said engineers are attempting to monitor bridges for structural damage, but it is difficult to do this while waters remain so high.
People are being urged to avoid all non-essential travel in Cumbria. Many roads are closed and impassable, according to authorities.

At around 4.15pm on Tuesday, police were called to the River Esk at Longtown Bridge, near Carlisle, after receiving reports of a man in difficulties in the water. It is understood the man, aged 32, had just rescued a young girl from the river.

Man Dies After London Bus Collide
A man has died and another 13 victims have been injured in a crash involving a car and a double-decker bus in Clapton, east London at about 02:20 this morning. The man, who was travelling in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene while another three men who were in the vehicle have been taken to hospital.

CCTV Images Released Of Missing GP
Nottinghamshire Police have released CCTV images of Elizabeth Kinston, a woman who has been missing for five days. The 37-year-old GP was last spotted carrying her coat and putting on a hat in Queens Bridge Road, Nottingham city centre, at 11.43am on Friday 1 November 2013.

Teenager Pleads To Manslaughter
17-year-old Darrell Desuze, of bath Road, Hounslow, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the case of a pensioner killed during last summer’s riots in London. Mr Bowes, 68, was trying to stamp out a fire in Spring Bridge Road, when he was punched and fell to the ground. He suffered brain damage from the impact of his head hitting the pavement.

Body Recovered In Search For 17-Year-Old
The body of 17-year-old male has been recovered from a canal in Hackney. It is understood that the teenager entered the water near Lea Bridge Road after running away from police on Wednesday afternoon. Police had been searching for the teenager after being called to a report of concern for his welfare.
