'Vile' Sex Abuser Jailed

A Manchester man who repeatedly sexually assaulted a young girl has been jailed.

Robert Stone, 53, of Mendip Avenue, Crossacres, admitted six counts of sexual assault on a child under 13.

He was jailed for 28 months at Manchester Crown Court Crown Square yesterday.

Stone was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for ten years and made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Stone had close contact with his victim through her mother.

In January 2009, when she was just 12-years-old, he began sexually assaulting her.

The abuse happened at his house and continued for several months until the victim found the courage to report the attacks to her mother in August 2009.

She called police and Stone was arrested.

Detective Constable Emma Rostron, of the Child Abuse Investigation Team, described Stone as a "vile individual".

"Stone has completely shattered the trust placed in him by the victim and her family," she said.

"He is a vile individual who has repeatedly abused a 12-year-old girl.

"While the trauma of what happened will stay with her for a very long time, I hope the fact he has been brought to justice and admitted what he has done will help her in some small way."
