Nursery Abuse Workers Jailed Indefinitely

The two women at the centre of the Plymouth nursery abuse case have been given indefinite jail sentences.

Vanessa George, 39, a mother-of-two from Plymouth in Devon, had previously pleaded guilty to seven sexual assaults on children and six charges of distributing and making indecent pictures of children, while her co-accused mother-of-one Angela Allen, 39, from Nottingham, had admitted to four charges of sexually assaulting children and one charge of distributing an indecent image.

At sentencing at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, George was told that she would serve a minimum of seven years, while Allen was told that she will serve at least five years.

A third defendant, Colin Blanchard, 39, from Rochdale, is due to be sentenced later. He had previously pleaded guilty to 17 charges of child pornography, two charges of sexually assaulting children and one charge of possessing extreme pornography. He will also face further charges.

Retired Priest Found Guilty Of Sex Abuse
A retired Anglican priest has been found guilty of sexual abuse. Canon Gordon Rideout, who is 74, was found guilty at Lewes Crown Court of abusing children in the 1960s and 70s, the BBC has said. He has been convicted of 36 separate sex offences against 16 different children.

French Court Postpones Extradition Decision
Magistrates in France have today postponed a decision on the extradition of Robert Williams, to the UK, after he was found with a teenage girl from Lincolnshire. Fifteen-year-old Laura Stainforth, was discovered in France last week with Mr Williams after going missing from her home.

Buried Body Suspect Attacked In Prison
The man accused of the murder of teenager Vicky Hamilton has been attacked in prison by an inmate. Peter Tobin, 61, who is being held at Saughton jail in Edinburgh, was due in court on Thursday to face charges relating to the murder of the 15-year-old Scottish schoolgirl.

Prisoner Makes Court Appearance Over Kent Body
A man has appeared in court to face charges related to the death of 15-year-old Vicky Hamilton, whose remains were found in the garden of a house in Kent. Peter Tobin, 61, who is currently in custody, appeared before Linlithgow Sheriff Court on Thursday. He was remanded in custody and is expected to reappear in court next week.
