Day Three Of BA Strike

British Airways cabin crew have entered their third day of stoppage over pay and working conditions.

Disgruntled union members will leave the picket line at midnight, but are prepared to return on Saturday for a further four days of industrial action.

BA has insisted its contingency plans are running smoothly, however with many flights cancelled today, workers' union Unite claimed provision are "failing".

Of the 77 flights scheduled on Monday only three have remain unaffected.

According to Unite, 37 contingency flights are ready to go but BA "do not know" if they will have crew to fly them.

The three flights working normally are to Hong Kong, Bangkok and Vancouver.

Unite has claimed "managers dressed as crew wandering round car park and have been told to look as if coming into work".

"BA offering strike breakers £100 in taxis each way - into work and then out," the union alleged.

However, BA said it contingency plans are continuing to work well.

"All longhaul aircraft were able to depart from their overseas airports as planned on Saturday evening and are arriving as normal at Heathrow and Gatwick on Sunday morning with many thousands of customers," the airline said last night.

"There has been no evidence of industrial action at any overseas airport directed at British Airways flights," a spokesman said.

"Our planned schedule of departures at Heathrow and Gatwick is also continuing to work well.

"We have added additional flights into our schedule at both Heathrow and Gatwick and customers can now book onto these flights."

The spokesman added: "We continue to offer the fullest support to our cabin crew who want to work as normal."
