Appeal Following Newham Rape

Police have appealed for witnesses and information following a rape in Newham over the Bank Holiday weekend.

At around 1.45am on Sunday 4 April, the 56-year-old female victim was returning to a relative's address following an evening at a public house in the East Ham area, police said.

As she walked along Wakefield Street, E6 she was befriended by a man who offered to help her as she had become lost.

He took her along a shortcut and they ended up in a car park area between two blocks of flats in Boleyn Road where he raped her, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

"Following the incident the suspect walked along Seymour Road and Priory Road. Officers believe other people were in Priory Road at the time and would appeal for these individuals to come forward," added the police.

The suspect is described as Asian, aged 19-23 years, approx 5'7" tall, of slim build; and was wearing a light-coloured hooded tracksuit with white stripes on the jacket and trousers, and black trainers.
