Driving Ban For Speeding Footballer

A premier League footballer has been banned from driving after been caught speeding.

Lee Cattermole has been banned 56 days after being caught speeding at more than 100mph in North Yorkshire.

The Sunderland midfielder was also fined £900 and ordered to pay £425 costs and a £15 victim surcharge by Northallerton magistrates on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old, from Stockton-on-Tees, had admitted driving at 103mph on the A19 at Thirsk last August.

That was the same month he was signed by Sunderland from Wigan in a £6m deal.

The speed limit on the stretch of road where the footballer was caught is 70mph.

This is not the first motoring incident concerning a footballer to appear in the headlines recently. The Wigan midfielder, Charles N'Zogbia, was arrested on Wednesday as he arrived for his practical driving test.

Police and officials from the Driving Standards Agency were waiting for him when he arrived for the practical at 8.20am

The 23-year-old, who could earn a place in England's World Cup squad, had allegedly arranged for someone to take the theory section for him several weeks ago

Lord Kinnock receives driving ban
Lord Kinnock has been banned from driving for six months. The former Labour leader had admitted to two speeding offences on the M4 motorway last year. The 64-year-old was caught breaking a temporary 40mph speed limit last June, when he was caught driving at 47mph. He was caught again in November, travelling at 60mph in a 50mph zone.
