Fergie 'In The Gutter' Before TV Sting
Boozing had left the Duchess of York "in the gutter" before she promised undercover News of the World reporters access to her former husband, Prince Andrew, in return for cash.
The Duchess of York met the US chatshow host Oprah Winfrey for an interview to be broadcast later today. It is the first such TV appearance since she demanded £500,000, for royal access.
She also tells Winfrey that she has yet to fully watch the newspaper's secretly-recorded video.
"I haven't faced the devil in the face. Because I was in the gutter at that moment," she said, adding: "I'm aware of the fact that I've been drinking, you know – that I was not in my right place."
The footage released by the newspaper just over a week ago showed Ferguson, 50, telling a man she presumed to be a foreign businessman that she could obtain access to the prince, who acts as a quasi-official British trade envoy.
Demanding £500,000 be wired to her bank account, she told the reporter: "That opens up everything you would ever wish for. I can open any door you want, and I will for you. Look after me and he'll look after you … you'll get it back tenfold."
Some of the footage shows Ferguson sitting by a bottle of wine, smoking, and seemingly slurring her words slightly, as if she has been drinking.
She has since apologised and insisted that Prince Andrew, who is an official trade ambassador for the UK, knew nothing about her exploits.
