Date Set For Bradford Deaths' Case

A provisional trial date has been set for a man accused of murdering three women in the Bradford area.

40-year-old Stephen Griffiths, of Thornton Road, Bradford, appeared at the city's crown court via video link from Wakefield Prison, as a provisional date of 16 November was set.

Mr Griffiths, who has referred to himself as the "crossbow cannibal" at a previous court appearance, is accused of murdering prostitutes Suzanne Blamires, Shelley Armitage, and Susan Rushworth.

He is accused of murdering Ms Blamires, 36, between 20 May and 25 May; murdering Ms Rushworth, 43, between 22 June, 2009, and 25 May this year, and murdering Ms Armitage, 31, between 25 April and 25 May this year.

Body parts found in the River Aire at Shipley were from Ms Blamires, while human tissue found in the river belonged to Ms Armitage.

Fred Talbot, the 65-year-old former TV weatherman, has been sentenced to five years for indecently assaulting two teenage boys in the mid 1970s. The crimes date back to 1975 and 1976, when Talbot was a teacher at Altrincham Grammar School, Greater Manchester.

Royal Mail To Be Privatised 'In Coming Weeks'
The UK government has given formal notice to the stock exchange that it plans to privatise Royal Mail "in the coming weeks". It has not provided specific details as to how much of the group will be sold, but it is understood to be a majority.

Bye Bye Sell By
The 'Sell by' label on perishable foods is to be removed in an effort to reduce wastage, according to the Government on Thursday. The Department for the Environment, Food and Agriculture (Defra) has announced that foods manufacturers should no longer use the 'sell by' date marks, instead using only 'best before' or 'use by'.

Woman Charged With Murdering Baby
A woman has been charged with the murder of 10-month-old Chloe Sutherland, it has been reported. A 35-year-old woman, said to be the little girl's mother, made no plea or declaration during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today. She has been remanded in custody.
