UK Servicemen Killed In Afghanistan Named

The Ministry of Defence has now named all four of the British servicemen who were killed in Afghanistan over the weekend.

Staff Sergeant Brett George Linley, 29, from 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, The Royal Logistics Corps, was killed in an explosion during a counter-IED operation in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand Province.

He enlisted into the Royal Logistics Corps in March 2001 and qualified as an Ammunition Technician in September 2002. Over the next eight years, he trained for several Counter-IED roles and most recently in March 2010, qualified as a High Threat IEDD Operator.

Jonathan Crookes, 26, from 40 Commando Royal Marines, was killed in an explosion while on foot patrol in Sangin in Helmand Province on Friday.

Marine Crookes was born in Birmingham and lived with his mother and fiancee Danielle in Halesowen, West Midlands. He had an older brother and sister called Robert and Jane.

He joined the Royal Marines Reserve, Birmingham Detachment in September 2005, passing or duty as a Royal Marines Commando in November 2006. He was awarded the Commando Dagger in November 2006 for the best all round recruit in training.

Sergeant David Thomas Monkhouse, 35, from The Royal Dragoon Guards, was killed in an explosion in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand Province on Saturday.

Sergeant Monkhouse, known as Bob, was born in Carlisle and raised in his home town of Aspatria.

He leaves behind his mother, Bobby, his sister Deborah, his partner Fiona and his daughter Daisy-Twinkle.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Monkhouse, a medical technician, served on four tours in Northern Ireland and in Iraq in 2007.

Senior Aircraftman Kinikki Griffiths, 20, was also killed in a road accident near Camp Bastion in Helmand Province on Friday.

He had joined the RAF last year and was described by his colleagues as a "consummate professional gunner".

Afghanistan Death Confirmed
It has been confirmed that a soldier from 40 Commando Royal Marines has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan. It happened on Wednesday, with one other marine also injured in the incident, and since described as "walking wounded".

MoD names Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan
The Ministry of Defence has named the Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday as 23-year-old Richard Watson. Marine Watson, of 42 Commando Royal Marines, was part of a patrol in the north of Now Zad in the north of the Helmand province that came under attack from Taliban forces.

MoD Names Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
The Ministry of Defence has named the British soldier killed in Afghanistan at the weekend as Corporal Darryl Gardiner from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Cpl Gardiner, 25, was serving in Afghanistan attached to 5th Regiment Royal Artillery and 52 Brigade's Reconnaissance Force.

MoD names soldier killed in Iraq blast
The Ministry of Defence has named the second soldier killed in a roadside explosion in Iraq on Monday. Gunner Samuela Vanua, 27, from the 12 Regiment Royal Artillery, died as a result of injuries sustained from a roadside bomb near the town of Ad Dayr, north of Basra City.

More Soldiers Die In Afghanistan Conflict
Two more British troops have paid the ultimate price this past weekend after Taliban forces shot dead one British soldier and killed another in a bomb attack in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province.
