Ilford Hit-And-Run Van Driver Sought

Police investigating a hit-and-run accident where a driver failed to stop after a serious road traffic collision in Ilford, in which a seven-year-old boy was critically injured, have released an E-Fit image of a man they wish to speak, (pictured).

The detectives have also issued a photo of the van that they think he was driving.

They are urgently appealing to the man to come forward but would also like to hear from anyone who recognises either the man in the E-Fit or the van, which is blue with three roof bars evenly spaced running down the length of the vehicle.

Detective Inspector Simon Sharp from the Road Death Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath Traffic garage is leading the investigation.

He said: "We continue to appeal to this man to come forward. We would also urge anyone with information about him or the van to contact us as soon as possible."

He said that London Ambulance Service was called to Leyswood Drive at 5.15pm on Wednesday, 28 July to where the victim had been crossing the road and been hit by a blue van.

The driver, who is described as white with blond spiky hair, drove on for approximately 20 yards with the boy still under the van.

He continued for a further 30 yards or so after the boy became free at which point he stopped and walked back to where the victim was lying.

He then ran back to his vehicle and drove off, turning left onto the A12.

The victim was taken to a central London hospital where he remains with life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 020 8597 4874.
