Police Appeal For Information Following Cash-In-Transit Van Robbery

Police in Liverpool have appealed for information on a cash-in-transit van robbery in the city on Monday.

Police are searching for a blue Ford Focus that they believe was involved in the robbery outside the Toby Carvery pub on Queens Drive.

Officers believe the vehicle is the same car that was taken from a woman in the car park of Tesco Superstore on Mather Avenue just before 11 pm on Thursday, 18 June.

Detective Sergeant Steve Lundon from Merseyside Police’s Matrix Serious Crime Unit said: "This car will have been parked up somewhere since last Thursday evening.

"The vehicle registration begins with WD64. However, we believe it may have been on false plates during this period. I would like to appeal to anyone who thinks they may have seen it, or seen any suspicious activity to please contact the police."

At around 10.11 am a man ran at a security guard outside the Toby Carvery and took the cash box he was carrying. He then got into the blue Ford Focus and drove off on to Queens Drive in the direction of Walton.

A short time later, the offender used the vehicle to ram the cash box in Highfield View, Old Swan before abandoning it and making off with the cash inside.

He was seen running off towards the Bolan Street and Green Lane area of Stoneycroft at around 10.15 am.

No-one was hurt during this incident and at this stage of the investigation it is not believed a weapon was used during the incident.

The offender is described as being approximately 5’8" tall, of slim build. He was wearing a balaclava and what could have been a blue Berghaus style jacket at the time of the incident.

If anybody has any information is asked to call the Major Crime Unit Investigation hotline on 0800 230 0600 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
