No Agreement Over Bonfire Night Strike

Discussions over strike action by London Firefighters on Bonfire Night have concluded without agreement.

Fire Brigades Union members have threatened to take industrial action over plans to reduce night shift hours in favour of longer working days.

The strike is planned for two days from November 5th, and coincides with Hindu Diwali festivities.

Labour leader Ed Miliband said he will not support the walkout, while Prime Minister David Cameron described the move as "irresponsible".

The strike sparked an emergency debate in the Commons, with Labour and Conservative MPs arguing over who was to blame.

The Chairman and Commissioner of the London Fire Authority, Brian Coleman said: "The FBU have placed firefighters in a terrible position.

"We had asked for a meeting with national negotiators on November 5th, and the union have responded with a strike.

"The message to the FBU is short and simple: Call the strike off and talk."
