Firefighters Re-Commit To Strike Action

In an ongoing dispute over pensions, firefighters in England and Wales have committed to two more strikes in the run-up to bonfire night.

The dispute is centred around the government wanting firefighters to work until aged 60, but the Fire Brigades Union has argued that this is too old to be fighting fires.

FBU members will stage a walk out between 18:30 and 23:00 on 01 November and again on 04 November between 06:00 and 08:00.

Strike action planned for earlier this month was called off after progress was said to be made during talks, however, the FBU now says the government and fire employers have failed to offer any firm guarantees on jobs or pensions.
