England On Top Down Under

England are celebrating a 3-1 win against Australia in the Ashes series in Sydney.

The win ends 24 years of failing to beat the Aussie team.

The 'Barmy Army' achieved an innings and 83 runs to win the fifth and final Test.

Captain Andrew Strauss said: "The bowlers were fantastic and the batsmen dipped their bread in it again. We're certainly going to enjoy this.”

James Anderson, who finished the series as the leading wicket-taker, added: "It's a great day and it's been a great tour - it's an amazing feeling for us."

England batsman Alastair Cook was named the man of the match and of the series for his 766-run haul.

After announcing his retirement from Test cricket on Thursday, Paul Collingwood admitted it was the best day of his career.

Prime Minister David Cameron said the "whole country is incredibly proud" of the England cricket team
