UK has sunniest September on record
The Met Office has reported that this September was the sunniest on record since the England and Wales sunshine series began in 1961.
According to Met Office figures released today, this month there was an average of 6.06 hours of bright sunshine per day – the most since the series began. It has also been the driest month since 1997, with only 33mm of rain falling, which is 58% less than average.
And we've seen warmer temperatures than the usual, with an average Central England Temperature of 14.6°C - not quite record-breaking but still 0.9°C above the norm.
The dry, warm and sunny conditions in the first three weeks of September followed similar conditions in August, when records were also broken. It had originally been thought that Gravesend in Kent had recorded the hottest day ever, with 38.1°C on August 10, but, following official Met Office verification, it can be revealed that Brogdale near Faversham now holds that record, with 38.5°C being recorded on the same day.
The average maximum Central England Temperature for this year so far has also broken records. At 16.26°C, it is the warmest January to September period since records began in 1659.

Driest January for almost a decade
England and Wales have had the driest January for almost ten years, according to the Met Office. The latest figures, published today, showed that some parts of the UK have had less than a quarter of their average rainfall so far this year. In total, England and Wales had 33.

House price inflation drops
Annual house price inflation dropped again in October, according to the latest figures from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. House price inflation was 2.2% in October, a fall from September’s figure of 3.3%. The ODPM reported that the average house price in the UK was £186,103 in October, compared with £186,755 in September.

Record Levels Of Car Registrations In September
Car registrations in the UK reached record levels in September, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Newly released figures show a total of 462,517 cars were registered last month. Changes to number plates in September means the month is usually one of the busiest of the year.

Rents Reached Record High In September
Rents in England and Wales reached a record high in September when they rose by a further 1.1%, a survey has said. LSL Property Services, which owns the Your Move and Reeds Rains property chains, said that the average rent was now £741 a month. This was 1.1% higher than August and 3.2% up on the same month a year earlier.

One of the UKs biggest NHS trusts is being investigated over the death of 25 patients, after it admitted “poor record keeping”. “Extreme concern” has been expressed by Westminster and two other London local authorities over lost data on referrals at Imperial College Healthcare.
