Appeals Launched Over Sex Offender's Register
Sex offenders across England and Wales are to be given the right to appeal against having their names registered with police for life.
To ensure public safety, Home Secretary Theresa May said the bar would be set as "high as possible" regarding appeals.
She added that police would decide when an offender did not have to register their details.
The announcement follows the Supreme Court ruling that refusing sex offenders the right to appeal was against their human rights.
Only those sentenced to more than 30 months for a sex-related crime are required to register with police for life.
Those affected by the ruling include up to 24,000 sex offenders, who were required to register for life.
Currently sex offenders must notify police of personal details, updates in address and when they have to travel.
No centrally held sex offenders register is available, however the Home Office says the system of notifying the police is commonly known as the sex offenders register.

Glitter Ordered To Sign Sex Offenders Register
Former glam rock singer Gary Glitter has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register after arriving back in Britain. Glitter was met at Heathrow Airport by a media scrum as well as police officers from the anti-paedophile Operation Jigsaw. The convicted sex offender, spent three years in a Vietnamese jail for abusing two girls aged 10 and 11.

Kelly announces review of sex offender vetting
Education Secretary Ruth Kelly has announced an "exhaustive" review of the cases of sex offenders granted permission to work in schools. Ms Kelly has been heavily criticised after it emerged that a man was allowed to work as a PE teacher, although he had been cautioned by police for accessing child pornography on the Internet.

More parents across the UK have been given the power to identify convicted paedophiles in their community. Home Secretary Alan Johnson said the scheme will improve protection for children by giving members of the public a formal mechanism to enquire about those in contact with young people.

New measures to curb sex tourism revealed
Registered sex offenders who travel abroad will have to notify the police if they plan to be away for three days or more, under new measure designed to tighten laws governing sex offenders. The government's Sexual Offences Bill today which will also see sex offenders required to give the police seven days notice of their intention to travel.
