Bellfield To Serve Life

A former nightclub bouncer, charged with the murder of Milly Dowler will serve a whole-life prison tariff.

The news comes as the jury in the case, considering a charge for the attempted abduction of 11-year-old Rachel Cowles, were discharged before making a decision.

Bellfield, who was serving time for two other murders, will never be released.

Jurors were discharged without reaching a verdict on the attempted abduction due to publicity of the case in which the Judge said "should not have been placed before the jury".

Bellfield will not be retried on the count of attempted kidnap.

Milly, 13, went missing while walking home from school on 21 March 2002 in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey.

Her body was found six months later in Hampshire.
