'Crafty Cook' Dies at 69

Michael Barry, AKA 'The Crafty Cook', has died at the age of 69 following a short illness.

Barry had hosted BBC Two's long-running Food and Drink programme, alongside Chris Kelly and wine experts Jilly Goolden and Oz Clarke from 1984 until its end in 2001.

His former colleague, Jilly Goolden paid tribute to him, describing him as a "larger than life character", who was "ebullient, warm-hearted and generous".

Barry also wrote 29 cookery books and also co-founded Classic FM in 1992.

He is survived by his partner Jennie Jones, a son and three daughters.

Hamilton rape-claim woman found guilty
The woman who alleged that Neil and Christine Hamilton raped her has been found guilty on two counts of perverting the course of justice. Nadine Milroy-Sloan (29), a trainee lecturer from Grimsby in Lincolnshire, had denied the charges, though she apologised to the Hamiltons saying that she might have been mistaken.

Four charged after £50m cocaine swoop
Four British men have today been charged by Customs officers with attempting to import one of the largest ever UK cocaine hauls. An intelligence-led operation took Customs officers to Winchester services on the M3 on Friday, where they seized 800 kilos of cocaine worth more than £50 million. The drugs were concealed in a consignment of groundnuts.

Five Arrested Under Terrorism Act In Cardiff And Barry
Five men have been arrested under the Terrorism Act in Cardiff and Barry. Police officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit and the Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit executed six search warrants on Thursday. The men have been arrested under the Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Barry George Wins Media Pay-Out
The man cleared of murdering BBC presenter Jill Dando has received compensation from newspapers who wrongly reported he had stalked other women. Barry George accepted "substantial damages" from News Group Newspapers, which owns the Sun and Sunday tabloid the News of the World.

Barry George Denies Jill Dando Murder
Barry George has pleaded not guilty to the murder of BBC TV presenter Jill Dando, during a hearing at the Old Bailey on Friday morning. The 47-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2001 for the murder of Miss Dando, who was shot dead outside her house in Fulham, west London, in April 1999.
