Ginger McCain Dies Aged 80

The trainer of triple Grand National Winner, Red Rum has died aged 80, after a battle with cancer. Ginger McCain guided Red Rum to three victories and two second places in a five-year period during the 1970s. McCain passed away peacefully in his sleep after a short illness this morning - he would have been 81 on Wednesday. There will be a private family funeral followed by a later memorial service, for which there will be more information in the coming weeks.

Former MP In Court On £80k Expenses Charge

A former Labour MP has appeared in court following accusations that she fiddled her expenses by nearly £80K. It is alleged that Margaret Moran 'flipped' her second home making claims for property in London,Luton and Southampton. Prosecutors also claim that she submitted forged invoices. Ms Moran spoke in court only to confirm her name and it has been reported that she could be heard crying in the docks before the hearing.

Kenyan Man Charged With Kidnap and Robbery

A Kenyan man has appeared in court in connection with the murder of a 58-year-old British man and the abduction of a 56-year-old British woman. David Tebbutt, 58, was killed in the attack earlier this month. His wife Judith was kidnapped and remains missing.The couple were attacked on the first night they stayed at the exclusive Kiwayu Safari Village hotel, which is about 30 miles from the Somali border.At least six gunmen burst into their room and shot David before dragging Judith down the beach and forcing her into a speedboat. The man, who used to work at the hotel, is charged with kidnapping and robbery with violence.

HSE Calls For Better Safety Regulations For Miners

A call to review mining health and safety regulations has been made following the death of four men at Swansea Valley Mine. An investigation into the deaths, caused by flooding, is ongoing. One theory for the flooding in the mine is that water may have collected in an older abandoned mine. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) claims that health and safety legislation for mining in the UK is amongst the most advanced in the world but said the job is "still hazardous". A spokesperson for the HSE said: "A full report into the causes of the accident is to be published in due course to ensure that any lessons can be applied."
