Labour Conference Slams 'Predators'
Labour Leader, Ed Miliband has attacked "predatory, asset-stripping" companies in his speech to today's Labour's annual conference.
It is also expected that he will later set out his vision of a country where responsible "grafters" are rewarded.
He is hoping to 'seize back' the political initiative amid falling opinion poll ratings by saying that 'Asset strippers' who make money without contributing to the communities in which they operate should be penalised.
He will also say that Labour will make businesses that secure government contracts also offer young people apprenticeships.
He will propose a shake-up of the welfare system, where social housing would no longer be allocated purely on the basis of need.
The Labour Party's annual conference is a major event for Liverpool and is being held at the Arena and Convention Centre between 25 and 29 September.
Merseyside Police reports that 11,000 delegates and 2,000 journalists are staying in the city over the five days of the conference, and it is expected to bring in around £15 million of revenue.
"We are hoping that their stay will give many of these people, who would perhaps not think of visiting the city, the opportunity to experience all that we have to offer - from heritage and culture to fabulous restaurants and a thriving night life," said a statement this week.
