Mo Mowlam Biopic For Emmy Awards

Nominations for the 39th International Emmy Awards have been announced by The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, with 40 nominees in 10 categories.

British actress Julie Walters made the shortlist for Channel 4's NI Secretary of State Mo Mowlam biopic - for best TV movie/mini-series and best actress.

Other British nominees include Christopher Eccleston, up for best actor for Jimmy McGovern's Accused, and Sherlock, for best drama.

Nominations span a record 20 countries including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, The Philippines, and The United Kingdom.

The competition has three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months, with participation from over 800 judges in 67 different countries.

"The International Emmy Awards is a tough competition with over 1000 entries from 61 countries, this year" said Bruce L. Paisner, President & Chief Executive Officer of The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences."

He added: "The number and range of countries represented by this year's nominees is astonishing and a testament to the growing strength and skill of television production around the world."

In addition to the presentation of the International Emmy Awards for programming and performances, The Academy will present two special awards. Veteran British Producer Nigel Lythgoe, Co-creator and Executive Producer of So You Think You Can Dance & Executive Producer of American Idol, is set to receive the 2011 International Emmy Founders Award.

Subhash Chandra, Chairman Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, will receive the 2011 International Emmy Directorate Award.

This year's partners are: Phoenix Satellite Television, TV Globo, Microsoft, Dori Media Group, Ernst & Young, Deluxe, Miptv, Sofitel Luxury Hotels and Variety.

Winners will be announced at a Black-Tie Ceremony on November 21, 2011 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

Brits recognise emerging talent
New talent dominated last night’s 2006 Brit Awards with the Kaiser Chiefs, James Blunt and KT Tunstall, all almost unknown 12 months ago, taking centre stage. Leeds band Kaiser Chiefs received three gongs, including the prestigious Best British Group and Best Rock Act. The band also collected the award for Best Live Act.
