Officer Commended For Saving Cadet Coach
A Westminster officer has been commended for his bravery after he saved a coach full of teenagers, averting a crash. Michael Haughey, 25, took the wheel of a coach after the driver collapsed at the wheel at 60mph on a motorway. The Police Constable based at Paddington was off-duty in his role as a volunteer Army cadet leader when the incident happened. He grabbed the wheel as the coach began to veer across the central reservation into oncoming traffic on the M3. "I was lucky that I was in the right place at the right time," Mr Haughey said. He managed to stop the vehicle before it plunged down a steep embankment. He was detachment commander for the cadets on a training trip to Wiltshire in August 2010 when the driver collapsed near Camberley, Surrey. The coach was carrying 40 cadets aged 12 -18.
Equal Opportunity Given For Throne Succession
A new constitutional reform means that, for the first time, sons and daughters future UK monarchs will have equal right to the throne. At a summit in Perth Australia during the Queen's visit to the continent, commonwealth leaders agreed to change succession laws, allowing a first-born daughter taking precedence over younger brothers. The leaders of the 16 Commonwealth unanimously approved the changes on Thursday. The ban on the monarch being married to a Roman Catholic was also lifted.
Europe Seeking €70bn From China
Eurozone heads of the bailout fund are believed to have opened discussions with China on an investment scheme that will see the Eastern country injecting billions to help Europe's recovery. It is being reported that China may pay about €70bn euros into the fund, which is planned to reach €1trillion. After meeting Chinese leaders, Klaus Regling said there were no formal negotiations and would be no deal now.

A 19-year-old man has been found guilty of planning to behead a British soldier, the BBC has reported. Brusthom Ziamani was carrying a 12 inch knife, a hammer and an Islamic flag at the time of his arrested in east London in August 2014. During an investigation it was found that the teenager had researched Army cadet bases.

A British cricket coach has been injured when gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan. The incident happened as the team bus came under gun and rocket fire as they travelled to face Pakistan in a Test match in Lahore.

Wi-fi Trial On The Glasgow Subway
A wi-fi system is to be tried out at Buchanan Street Station on the Glasgow Subway. If successful, passengers will be able to use their laptops and make phone calls. The link could be in operation by the end of the year. A similar scheme is also being considered by First Scotrail for central belt services.

Man Remanded Over Date Murder
A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman he asked out on a date. Twenty-seven-year-old Karl Taylor, a fitness trainer and football coach, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Kate Beagley during an appearance via video link at the Old Bailey on Tuesday. Miss Beagley, 32, from Walton-on-Thames in Surrey, disappeared in June.
