Notts Confirm Arrest Over Alleged Sex Assault

Notts County FC have confirmed that one of their players has been arrested in connection to an alleged sexual assault at a London hotel over the weekend.

The club's striker, Lee Hughes, is believed to have been taken into custody on suspicion of sexual assault after an incident involving a woman at the hotel on Saturday.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to a hotel in Purley Way, Croydon, at 11am on Saturday before a 35-year-old man, believed to be Mr Hughes, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and taken into custody.

In a statement from the player's club on Tuesday morning, a spokesman said: "Notts County can confirm that the club are aware of an alleged incident involving one of our players at the team's hotel on Saturday, December 3.

"As this is a police matter, the club will be making no further comment on this incident."

Mr Hughes has been released on bail until a date in late-January, pending further inquiries.
