Scottish Families Without Power Until Monday
The Scottish government has said it may take until Monday before power is returned to homes after the worst storm in over a decade.
Reports this morning say engineers are battling to reconnect more than 70,000 homes currently without power after wind speeds up to 165 mph were recorded.
A number of wind turbines were destroyed and set on fire after gales over rotated their huge fins.
Among the highest winds recorded in Scotland were the Cairngorm Summit, which saw 165 mph gales; Aonach Mor, which registered 145 mph winds and Tiree, where 90 mph winds were recorded.
Schools are expected to reopen after councils and businesses closed early on Thursday following a police warning to stay indoors and avoid travel.
On Thursaday evening, the Meteorological office said: "The violent storm in Scotland is a reminder of the enormous impact that weather can have on our lives, and of the paramount need for accurate forecasts of high winds."
Many parts of Scotland are still dealing with some disruption to travel services while some storm-force winds brought down trees, closed roads and knocked out power lines.
