Ofcom Raise Complainants About Freeview ‘Porn”

Ofcom, the UK television regulator, has issued a complaint to the Dutch media regulator over the content of adult chat channels Babestation and Smile TV.

The programmes are licensed in the Netherlands but broadcast in the UK via Freeview.

Ofcom are concerned about protecting British audiences from scenes of near naked women massaging each other’s breasts and faking orgasms. They said: " this is an important issue, and active discussions are under way."

The UK regulator however has no powers to block the broadcasts as they are regulated by the Dutch media authority.

The regulator added that it has no tally of the number of complaints received from British viewers about the channels, adding that it advises those offended to approach the Dutch regulator.

Newcastle United Fans Offer To Pay Fine

Newcastle United fans have offered to pay the fine of an unemployed fan found guilty of criminal damage.

In protest of a controversial name change to the stadium Michael Atkinson was caught by police painting “St James” on the newly renamed Sports Direct Arena.

Convicted of criminal damage Atkinson was fined £100 to go towards the £187 clean-up costs but Graeme Cansdale of NUFC Fans United has said supporters have approached him offering to contribute towards the cost.

"He has done something illegal, but I don't think he has hurt the club.” Said Cansdale. “What he has done may have been ill-advised; however it is certainly reflective of what a lot of fans think."

Atkinson’s protest came after Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley decided to rename the historic St James Park after his sports store, Sports Direct.
