Officers Help Deliver Baby Girl

Two officers from Lambeth have been praised after they helped deliver a baby this morning, Thursday 3 May.

The father of the baby called police at 02:55hrs in a distressed state asking for officers to attend his home address in Knights Hill.

He was at work in central London and wasn't with his wife.

PC Matt Spence and PC Gill Moriarty attended the address with no knowledge that a baby was on its way.

They were met by a heavily pregnant woman clutching her lower abdomen.

The officers acted quickly and helped deliver the baby girl. She was born at approximately 03:40hrs.

PC Matt Spence, said: "There was a tense few moments when the baby wasn't making any noise straight after birth. Fortunately Ambulance staff, and the father, arrived the moment the baby was born and within no time we could hear that everything was going to turn out fine."

Mother and baby where taken to Kings College Hospital to be checked as a matter of routine.
