Eric Sykes Dies Aged 89
Eric Sykes, one of Britain's best-loved comedy actors and writers, has died at the age of 89, his manager has said.
He found fame in a series of TV sitcoms from the 1950s, including Sykes And A... alongside co-star Hattie Jacques.
He also starred in films including Monte Carlo or Bust, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and The Others.
Manager Norma Farnes said: "Eric Sykes, 89, star of TV, stage and films, died peacefully this morning after a short illness. His family were with him."
11-Year-Old Saves Heart Attack Dad
An 11-year-old girl brought her father back to life when he stopped breathing following a heart attack.
A 999-call operator guided Maria Rowe, from Redruth, as she performed CPR on her dad John.
On the third cycle of resuscitation Mr Rowe, 64, started to breathe again before an ambulance crew arrived and took over treatment.
Doctors confirmed Mr Rowe had suffered a heart attack and was recovering in hospital.
EU Plans For All Cars To Have Automatic Emergency Call
All new cars will be fitted with a tracking device that will automatically alert the emergency services in the event of an accident, under EU plans.
MEPs this week backed moves to make the eCall system, which uses sensors to call the nearest emergency centre when a car crashes, mandatory from 2015.
The European Commission has dismissed privacy fears, saying it could save up to 2,500 lives a year.
The UK government has yet to sign up to the initiative due to cost concerns.

Just under 90 new jobs are to be created in Cardiff, with the establishment of a new head office for financial services company, Open Resolution. The company, which specialises in helping people correct mistakes in their credit rating, will invest £375,000 in its new headquarters, creating 89 new jobs.

Woman, 89, Robbed In Manchester
An elderly woman has been burgled in Manchester after thieves tricked their way into her home. The 89-year-old victim, who lives on Ashfield Square, Droylsden, answered her door to two men at around lunch time on Thursday 26 November. She had been expecting a visit from a charity and did not question the man who was there.

Shorter People More At Risk Of Heart Disease
Shorter people are more at risk of coronary heart disease, according to a new study led by Professor Sir Nilesh Samani, British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiology and Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences. The research discovered that every 2.5 inches of change in height affects the risk of coronary heart disease by 13.5%.

Nestle announces job losses
Swiss food firm Nestle has announced that it is cutting 645 jobs at its factory in York. The firm, the world's largest food and drink company, will sell part of the site in York and move the production of some of its products to other factories in Europe.

Men jailed for British couple's murder
Two Venezuelan men have been jailed for a total of 96 years for the kidnap and murder of a British couple in Spain. Jorge Real Sierra, 56, and his brother-in-law Juan Antonio Velazquez, 40, were found guilty of the murder of Anthony and Linda O'Malley, from Llangollen, north Wales, at a court in Alicante, Spain.
