Further Flood Misery Expected
Forecasters are predicting even more rainfall to hit the UK and that up to 15mm of rain could fall in an hour in some places as the period of unseasonably wet weather continues.
The Environment Agency has three flood warnings – one in the south-west and two in the Midlands – and 26 flood alerts in place across England, while the Met Office has issued an amber warning of rain for south-eastern areas of Scotland and yellow warnings across large swaths of southern and northern England.
A Met Office spokesman said: "The public should be prepared for the likelihood of localised flooding, particularly in the amber area."
Nick Grimshaw To Take Over R1 Breakfast Show
Radio 1 late evening DJ Nick Grimshaw has been named as the surprise choice to takeover the coveted breakfast slot from Chris Moyles.
The appointment of 27-year-old Grimshaw, who is also part of the presenting team for Channel 4's youth programming strand T4, will be a massive blow for Greg James who has been widely touted as the favourite.
Speculation that James would eventually takeover from Moyles was heightened in February, when the 26-year-old took over control of the BBC Radio 1 drivetime show from Scott Mills.
It was felt by BBC insiders that Grimshaw is a broadcaster at the top of his game and it would have been a mistake to expect him to wait to take on the most high-profile slot in UK radio.
Resident Drop Missile Legal Bid
Residents of a tower block in east London where surface-to-air missiles are being stationed for the Olympics have dropped their legal case.
On Tuesday, the High Court ruled in favour of the Ministry of Defence's (MOD) move to set up missiles.
Solicitors for the tenants of the Fred Wigg Tower said their clients could not afford to appeal against the court's decision.
The residents now intend to have the matter raised in Parliament.
